Fitness Journey May 2026
The Scoop
As I write this post, I have two loaves of sourdough on my counter. I’m experimenting with new recipes and making a loaf of cinnamon raisin to take to my stylist. I have been making cinnamon raisin sourdough for myself and it is far superior to the store bought. I can’t believe I waited so long to make it myself.
But this post is not about sourdough. Ha Ha! I am doing my monthly check in regarding my fitness journey.
As you may know if you follow me, I have been working on building muscle. I want to be strong as I age more than anything else. I don’t care about wrinkles or my weight anymore. I want to be able to take care of myself for as long as possible.
My dad turns 97 this month. He still lives alone and still drives a car. He in completely independent and enjoys life. He recently got his annual bloodwork done and they told him everything was normal and to keep doing what he was doing! My dad has never done formal exercise. He just eats variety and moves all the time. He can’t sit still and is always on a mission or project. I get that from him. I am never still. So, I try to follow his lifestyle as a model for living well.

Linking my same shorts, socks and sneakers. All so soft and comfortable. My sweatshirt is from Costco.
I do exercise and always have. Recently I have gotten interested in the benefits of weight lifting. This is my six month straight lifting weights and I have absolutely gotten stronger for it.
I do have issues right now though. I haven’t been walking or doing cardio and even slacked off on my yoga. I just started to feel burned out on it all. So, I took a couple of weeks off and backed off everything a little.
I had progressively increased my weight lifting routine to where it was taking me an hour to complete. Then I would be drained the rest of the day. I was doing that, three times a week. I knew that was not how it is supposed to work. So, I made some changes.
Now I am doing two sessions a week. Two sets, the first is heavy enough weights to lift 12 to 15 repetitions to failure and the second is heavy enough weights that I can only do four to six repetitions to failure. It has cut my workout back to about 30 minutes and I am not out (exhausted) for the day. I’m still feeling strong and seeing muscle definition which is my goal. If it seems to not be enough over time, I will make adjustments but for now it is perfect!
I’m adding walking back into my week too. I really need the cardio to feel good. And I do yoga at least a couple of times a week, to practice my balance and flexibility. All subject to how my body responds.
My look
I’ve seen so many women sporting this look and it always catches my eye. I am wearing comfortable bike shorts and an oversized sweatshirt along with ankle socks and sneakers. Of course no make up is my usual stay at home deal and even my hair today was a wash and go thing. Ha Ha!
I’m excited because I am going to my stylist this week to get my color perked up for spring and summer!
Thanks for stopping by!
Peace!
